Guess i'm easily fascinated in a ghoulish apocalyptic way by this.A once great city declared bankrupt by $15 Billion. Large areas now just a desolated, deserted wasteland.Images in my mind of those old classic Motown songs echoing ghostly through dilapidated and deserted neighbourhoods. There was a great BBC4 documentary i watched a couple of years ago about how Detroit had declined.Think it was made by Julian Temple if i recall and it was compelling and haunting how a city could die like that.Couldn't find it on YouTube unfortunately but if you do find it somewhere it's a great doc.

Yup. Requiem for Detroit. It was BBC2 though, I think, and not C4.

Think we've discussed that here before - fascinating how there's abandoned areas with hotels and libraries, etc, all left intact. Only time I've ever experienced anything like that personally was going to Colditz a few years ago and how half that town is now derelict - huge homes just left abandoned because there's absolutely no work there now and all the youngesters leave.

As far as Detroit goes, I hope they're gonna make some more proper bleak techno off the back of all this!

I read somewhere or heard on NPR a few years back that people who have left Detroit are having their dead relatives dug out of cemeteries and moved out of the Detroit region. Even the dead leave.
