Thanks to this post, I've really been listening to the Get Ready era B Sides ...
I must say, Sabotage and Behind Closed Doors are stellar tunes, and a good deal better than some of the stuff that was actually put on Get Ready.
Sabotage is dark and has really beautitful melodies, especially Bernard's lead guitar melody and the synth lead at the end. Great lyrics too, really heartfelt.
I also love Behind Closed Doors, kind of a dark, urban trip hop track that makes me think of Massive Attack a bit. Lyrically, it seems to be one of Bernard's "character" songs, and he see,s to be singing/writing from the point of view of poor working class people who piss their miserable lives away in a haze of drugs and booze and TV. I really identify with this...I grew up in such a neighborhood and going back for Xmas recently really made me think of this song.
I know it's been talked about before, but Get Ready could have been a very different album if these songs had been included, and if Here To Stay had been done all the time.
My ideal Get Ready tracklisting:
1. Crystal
2. 60 Miles an Hour
3. Close Range
4. Player In the League
5. Run Wild
6. Vicious Streak
7. Sabotage
8. Close Range
9. Primitive Notion
10. Someone Like You
11. Here To Stay
