Reminded me of a bootleg'd gig where between songs everything goes silent and some guy screams ''Everything's Gone Green!'' and there's no reaction at all from either the audience or the band. I don't know why, but that's something that stuck in my head, maybe it's because it tells a lot about how they used to be..

There was a guy from Northern Ireland who you could hear on all the Irish shows screaming for EGG, even when they'd already played it... |

My mother thought it was green politics but she fucks in churches so I wouldn't listen to her. According to 'Ideal For Living' it's simply 'cos when they finished recording they couldn't think of a name, then they looked out of the window and you guessed it...

My mother spoils me, I'm the only guy in London she hasn't fucked yet. Interesting EGG-related FACt: the whoops at the end aren't Barney, it's Rob Gretton celebrating the band's new-found dance vitality after the Movement style.

(I'm sure you all do...) I haven't a clue. Pisstaking aside... Everything's Gone Green and Temptation were allegedly written during a period where members of the band were experimenting taking acid in the studio. So from that, you can probably figure it out I.e. mind-altering drugs. Same goes for "Oh you've got green/blue/grey eyes" lyric in Temptation. Hannett (who produced EGG but not Temptation) was a bit of a junkie and it was commonplace for them to take loads of drugs in the studio and work all night. Allegedly, during EGG's recording, Bernard and Hooky requested the hihats be turned up in the mix and Hannett walked out. EGG was his last collaboration with the band. Read somewhere years ago that when they came out of the studio all the snow had melted and everything had gone green.
Though if they recorded it in summer 81 that doesn't work. Did they record it early 81?

There was a theory a while back it was something to do with green being the colour of envy, as in the green eyed monster. Dunno if I could work that out from the lyrics though. Maybe something about naivety?
