While either of the two tracks above are likely, consider this...
Avalanche is:
1. Subdued, with somewhat ambient qualities akin to Elegia 2. A nice little celebration of Gillian's return 3. An acknowledgement of the "faith" fans kept while waiting for the triumph of Music Complete.

Regret's always a strong opener, although I think it deserves to be pushed further into the gig alongside other classics such as Temptation and True Faith.

that really isn't a good way to start a gig I liked it when it was a rarity. To open every gig with just a portion of it turned it into a sort of reverse Blue Monday concept. As in, the music played before the gig actually starts.

We've come to expect little variation from night to night. Would it kill them to just surprise us with a different opener at least.
I say rotate between any one of these: Ceremony, Restless, Crystal, Vanishing Point, Regret, Academic, Blue Monday (get it out of the way and blow peoples minds in the process), Age of Consent, Dream Attack, Avalanche, Singularity, Love Vigilantes, or Here to Stay (statement of intent).

Unlearn This Hatred would be a good choice, but I'd be surprised if they did. Most probably be Elegia (Bernard likes it, and if Bernard wants something it happens) followed by Singularity, then Crystal and Restless. In fact, this won't be far out for the tour:
Elegia Singularity Crystal Restless Ceremony Tutti Frutti People On The High Line Bizarre Love Triangle True Faith 586 Plastic Perfect Kiss Blue Monday Temptation _____________ Atmosphere Transmission LWTUA |

What's wrong with Elegia? I think it's a great tune... although admittedly opening every set with it got a bit old.

All the classic songs with keyboard parts have had some programming. Parts are programmed in advance and triggered on the keyboard. How else do you think they played the likes of TPK, BLT etc live, Mike? Gillian certainly wasn't playing that big arpeggio on BLT live! |
