Anyone remember NOOL Day? Well unbelievably it'll be ten years ago next year, so I'm going to run another one. Similar format but with a few tweaks - obviously Re:Order, Digital and Flight aren't around anymore, but I daresay a bit of gentle persuasion may get some good results.
Might be worth a punt to see if we can get Hooky and the Light to do a set, I'm sure Joy Revision will be available and might be worth trying to get one of the US bands over, and maybe one of the European JD Bands.
For those who weren't at the event in 2006, I put on Hooky, Re:Order, Digital, David Potts and Flight at ULU in London, and we raised several thousand pounds for Cancer Research and the NSPCC. People came from all over the world to see the gig (it helped that NO themselves had played Wembley the night before!) and a great time was had by all. |

Great stuff Tim But regarding Hooky didn't he once say (a few years after NOOL Day) " I hate that NOOL lot" ?

It was a blast. Re-order and Digital were great. The Hooky DJ set boring. Count me in for a new one |

While clearly a laudable idea my advice Tim would be to do any new event under a fresh name and not NewOrderOnline. In the cold light of day the main site here has not been properly updated in well over 5 years and the forums are a shadow of what they once were. Don't get me wrong it's been great to see fans - new members and old - come back to discuss the release of 'Music Complete' but Spotnick is a busy chap and this place is clearly no longer a priority. NOOL peaked in 2000-2 and then 2005-6 culminating in the original event you organised. Then of course in 2007 Facebook started to get properly noticed, many forums members befriended each other on there and basically transferred chat about the band over to there. As a result NOOL has obviously and sadly languished somewhat. We both know many once-prolific NOOLers who basically never use this place any more and have little intention of coming back; Facebook and Twitter is simply easier. If you do get a line-up together I would recommend utilising the largest JD/NO Groups on Facebook for publicity. You will get far more exposure, sell more tickets and maximise your charity appeal than naming it after this place. Social media nowadays is on steroids compared with what it was back in '06, music forums have been left to the die-hards. I'm sure you'd have lots of people - myself included - helping you promote it on their Facebook profiles etc. Best of luck with it

Thanks Ally, you are spot on there. NOOL as it was is dead, social media has walloped it into touch because it didn't move with the times. Still mulling over how to present the day as a going concern, getting the buy-in will be critical so will need lots of support. Will have a chat with Andy Rob first up. |

Sad that so many ditched NOOL for Facebook.NOOL circa 2005 was an absolute scream, some hilarious times.Really fun and stimulating and some great discussions. Most discussions on NOOL Facebook just boil down to " Hey NO, come to Mexico please!" or "No Hooky, no New Order" etc etc blah blah blah ad infinitum. The off topic threads in Behind Closed doors were always incredibly busy and were often funny as fcuk.

Am sure Flight would be able to dust off the instruments and turn up again if wanted :-) |
