I'm a bit out of the loop and this may have been covered...but are they going to be available in deluxe or remastered cd editions?
I'm happy to at least have them on vinyl and DL. But I am a cd buyer as well ;)

I would think that's likely next year at some point, though at the moment I don't know what form they might take (single discs, deluxe editions etc).

That would be nice. I'd like a 2CD job like the Factory ones, but without the fuck ups obvs.

You'd definitely think there'd be something in the pipeline. It wouldn't make good business sense to spend the money remastering the back catalogue and then release everything on the quiet for the most part (apart from the vinyl reissues). If I remember right a similar thing happened with the Led Zeppelin remasters, whereby the remastered standalone albums were sold digitally, and then deluxe versions followed months later.

I do hope that whatever re-releases follow will cover the majority of the other tracks - the stuff off Substance particularly.

It would be nice to see something more happen with the new 2015 remastered versions of Movement to Technique as well. Other than the few people coming across them on this forum, it's like they weren't announced officially anywhere. Likewise, it would be great to see a remastered Substance too. Maybe add a few b-side tracks like the JD version did and replace some of the edited singles with the full length versions to fill in that extra disc space.

What extra disc space? The CD version was edited down to fit originally (the vinyl TPK being longer). Disc 2 is the B sides.

Yeah, if you made up the Substance disc one running order with the true 12" versions it would come to almost an hour and a half which obviously won't fit on a CD. On the other hand you could put the regular 12" version of Hurt back on disc two and that would stay within 80 minutes. I assume back in 1987 retail CDs were still limited to 74 hence that single edit on disc two. I do think a remastered Substance "as is" - with the Mesh/C&W mis-label corrected - would be welcome. It's many people's favourite album/compilation plus the re-recorded versions of Temptation (a fan favourite?) and Confusion have that tinny late-80s sound and which weren't remastered in 2008. Neither was Kiss Of Death from the second disc.

The Joy Division Substance got a genuine remaster/reissue this year so it would be good to see a slimline double card sleeve reissue of New Order's in 2016. I find it hard to believe Frank Arkwright was asked to remaster all the LPs (plus Singles) but leave out Substance? It's got to be in the pipeline Tongue

For disc 1, the unedited 12" Perfect Kiss could fit, then either the unedited 12" of Shellshock or Sub-Culture, but just not both. Personally, I'd rather have the full 12" of Shellshock since the full remix of Sub-Culture was already remastered on the Low-Life 2007 bonus disc.

Then for disc 2, the full 12" of Hurt can indeed fit with both Cries & Whispers and Mesh added, plus there's even a little room left over to fit Perfect Pit.

That finally made it's CD debut on a Blank & Jones CD a couple of years back (So 80s 6) - details here.

Doesn't sound too bad - i.e. not brickwalled (at least not to these ears - I haven't checked it on a graph)! Tongue

Cool

I wasn't aware of that compilation, so that's good to know. It'd still be nice to see it make it's way to an official New Order release though since so many of these mixes are scattered all over the place. While I could very well just burn a CD of mine own, I'm just amazed how nothing official has come out to truly tidy up their 12" history.

That reminds me... I do actually own one of those "so80s" compilations. It's one for OMD which I remember picking up because it collected a small handful of 12" mixes which were hard to track down on CD. It is by no means complete since it's only one disc, but the sound quality is as good as the album reissues.

A nicely mastered version of Touched By The Hand Of Dub (12") came out on the most recent Blank & Jones So80s 9 compilation.

Worth having if you're a fan of that track.

Off-topic, but that reminds me - I must remember to get rickets for the OMD gig at the Royal Albert Hall - tix go on sale this Friday! Smile
