Now my turn, finally...
A picture of the first night's setlist was uploaded on someone's twitter right after the gig, and it showed In A Lonely Place/Isolation/BCD so I knew it might be picked up on one occasion or another. I just wished and prayed, and then...BANG! When did I hear them play IALP last time? Osaka, May 4, 1985...my first New Order show! Thirty-two years ago...where has the time gone?
Another unique New Order performance added to their gig history, the one-of-a-kind selection of the songs shines through -- I thoroughly enjoyed the show from beginning to end, even though some of the choices were not particularly my favorite. Ultraviolence was especially impressive, so masculine and dynamic. Also glad to hear Disorder, my go-to JD tune...unfortunately its delivery was somewhat shaky, perhaps the weakest performance of the night four.
All of these three titles I mentioned above are also among those unaccompanied by the much touted synth ensemble -- were they really up to the hype? Did they fulfill the expectation? Yes and no.
They were certainly visually stunning and fun to watch, no doubt about it -- hello dancing synth girl! Musically, though, there were moments I more often than not wondered if this or that particular tune was to a great degree enhanced by the army of this many gizmos.
That said, I'd like to express my feeling of thanks and appreciation to New Order, their challenging spirt to make it all happen. Well done again, guys!
