Thought it was interesting that he's already made plans to tour Get Ready and WFTSC.

Well, I for one don't.
I can't really imagine Hooky singing things Krafty and Guilt Is A Useless Emotion.
But, you know, I'm not everyone, so I'm sure some people will be happy.

It does make you wonder though. Is he doing these because he really wants to play them live? Or is he doing it for completeness sake?
Does he really want to revisit 'Rock The Shack', 'Slow Jam' or 'Jetstream'?

I'd hazard a guess that a fair proportion of the people who will go and see this (when he does tour the two albums) are probably going to see it for completeness also.

No, I'd much rather see Hooky focussed on making some new music, either with Monaco, or with another project.
Same goes for New Order. Much as I enjoy the gigs, I want them back in the studio, making a follow up to the bloody excellent Music Complete.

Fun fact: The interviewer, Mark Kavanagh used to be one half of Irish dance/house/techno act Sound Crowd. They used to sample the shit out of New Order.

I always see the Light if they're round my parts, but I have to say I'm getting bored of JD every time. Even the NO 81 - 83 kicked off with that other band. I guess it's what Italians really, really want (Unknown Pleasures or Republic?), and they're more suited to live performance and Hooky's ''''''''''vocals'''''''''', but I'm itching for some New Order now. In the UK he's covered the whole 80s...

Funnily enough, they'd be closer to Light material than Liar or Chemical.

I think Get Ready would be fine. Last time I saw them the band opened with 2 minutes of instrumental Crystal before Hook took the stage and it sounded good.

However, thinking of him singing Jetstream makes me chuckle.

Peter still loves Bernard too much,almost painfully ,but ,even though he is hurting inside ,he will reconstruct everything , including all the Electronic and BL songs , World in Motion, Out of Control, In the Ghetto, Miracle Cure, the 808 and Hot Chip songs and then Music Complete ,then the Revenge and Monaco and Freebass songs , and then , as a tribute to Italians, Spice Girls ,Rugby and Football fans and their families he will glide seamlessly into a tutti frutti spicey spacey extravaganza of glam, ham, wham, , and ramjam take that Barny bamaramajama for all mankind ,and why not?

Hooky is apparently playing my home town next year, which is kind of incredible as nobody decent plays here (although The Beatles played here once or twice, back in the day).

Weirdly, it’s one of those 80s reunion type things, with a group of fairly horrid acts (ABC, Tony Hadley etc.).
Adam Ant is headlining, who I wouldn’t mind seeing, as I quite like Dirk Wears White Socks and Kings Of The Wild Frontier.

I think I’ll go, just to see Hooky and Mr Goddard.

I’ve not seen The Light before and the prospect of seeing them here in leafy Salop is quite appealing.

I’m a little sceptical that it’ll actually happen though. Have a feeling that Hooky will look at the other acts on the bill and realise that it’s probably not the sort of festival he’d really want to play.

A band that could have fit on Factory, with their Peter Saville sleeves, OMD are playing. Maybe they can steal their bass guitar back from Hooky. Their early stuff was great: Joan of Arc, Maid Of Orleans, Enola Gay, Electricity, Messages etc.
I caught ABC on the Camden Crawl back in 2014. I thought they were great. Lexicon of Love is a classic 80s album. Pete Wylie playing too.
It's unlikely Hooky would cancel unless the whole gig got cancelled due to poor ticket sales ("unforseen circumstances" as they tend to say). No one wants to get a bad reputation for bailing on these sort of comittments. If you know what he's signed up to, then so does he.
You. Should. Go.

BTW am I the only one who thinks OMD's Souvenir and NO's Doubts Even Here seem to share some vocal similarities? Both tracks released in '81.

Yeah, I think I will go. Can’t resist the temptation of seeing him in my home town.

It’s a very popular annual event in the town (it’s run for a few years, I think), so I think ticket sales are going to be good.
I’ve never been before but a lot of 40somethings (and some youngsters feeling the 80s vibe) in the area tend to go.

The main problem with the event this year is venue. In the past, it’s been held in The Quarry, which is a lovely park down by the river in the centre of the town. Long story short, complaints have been made, mainly about noise from the people in the affluent residential area close by. So the Council are involved and might stop this place being the venue.
So, they might well be selling tickets for an event that won’t have a venue. Which could be problem. 🤭

I liked OMD back in the day but, looking back now, really only the first four LPs are good, in my opinion. By the time of Junk Culture, they’d gone from interesting electronic pioneers to bland 80s pop. But, that being said, I’d certainly watch them if I went. Enola Gay, Souvenir, Electricity, Maid Of Orleans are all good songs and I wouldn’t mind hearing them live.

Never noticed Souvenir and DEH sharing some similarities. I’ll give them a listen with that in mind.

OMD has always put on a good show. only seen them a few times though, starting when they opened for DM in 88.

I saw DM back in 1988. My first ever gig. Birmingham NEC in January, I think.
Great gig. Back when DM were bloody brilliant, i.e. before Wilder left :-(

Shame the support wasn't OMD for that one as, as I said earlier, I was quite into them at the time.

The support for that particular gig was a band called, I think, 'Hard Corps'.
They were fairly non-descript, with the only thing I remember of them being the female lead singer wearing a see-through body stocking.

Yeah, I'm shallow, I know. But cut me some slack - I was 15 at the time. Things like that stick in the mind. :-)
