http://www.gq-magazine.c...sion-new-order-interview

One of the unsung architects of the Manchester sound, the Salford stalwart has influenced every major musical movement of the past 35 years. Whether pioneering post-punk with Joy Division, melding rock/dance with New Order, or blowing £1m on a nightclub, 'Barney' was there. As his band limber up for an Olympic concert, GQ pays tribute to the straight man of Madchester

If you were stranded on a desert island, Bernard would find food, build a lifeboat, and then make a great synthesizer

Good piece, that. Thanks

Sumner appeared in the video wearing the rare sky-blue Umbro England third kit (worn once, in a 1-0 win against Turkey in 1991)

Really? Only worn once? Blimey, i thought that was worn a fair few times.

Lots of interesting info in that interview...

"Electronic never formally split. Sumner and Marr have both told GQ there's a strong possibility of a future EP."

"New Order are touring extensively and said to be writing new material"

"there's an electronic album with Stuart Price, AKA Jacques Lu Cont"

"and the second Bad Lieutenant album, shelved in 2011, will be dusted down and released." Frown

"There may even be an autobiography"

That Karl Bartos Esperanto album that's mentioned was good. Used to have it on cassette way back 93ish but buggered if i know what happened to it, will have to search in the attic

also- Peter Hook decided we weren't going to play together any more but let's say he forgot to tell the rest of the band. We didn't split up. He left. Surely for a band to split up, you sit down with other members of the band and agree to split up.

Yup.Spot on.

I was listening to Etienne Daho's Late Night for the first time just now - Wow, was Get the Message an intentional nod? That CAN NOT be a coincidence. Never heard of the Daho track until now.

Nice overview of Bernards career but I was expecting a more in-depth article which would cover some other importatnt moments in New Orders history (I am curious about the 87-93 period, specifically about how they managed fame after True Faiths success). Although I enojoyed the bit about his life previous to JD, I would have liked it to tell a bit more about his private life aside from his well known love for sailing.

Bernard seems to be a rather 'private' person, from reading interviews and so on. I actually like it when musicians/celebrities are like that...I like to let the work speak for itself.

Most of those sound just like speculation, or guesses. I don't like to take them too seriously.

I've been thinking about it and I have to admit that you're right. He has the right to protect his own privacy if that's what he wants. But that doesn't mean that I'm not a bit curious.

Quite a lot of the content is a copy and paste from David Nolan's biography of Bernard and google searches of recent events. Didn't learn an awful lot from this.
